Selecting a topic

The Forum will cover several topics that matter to the youth of today. You may refer to the below topics to choose what you would like to talk about.

Guidelines for your speech topic, content and delivery: IYLIF2017

1. The speech topics given above are general pointers. Speakers may select their specific speech topics if they are related to those topics.
2. The speech should give strong positive messages to the audience
3. The speech should have some actionable points they audience can consider
4. Speeches should have some stories, anecdotes and
5. Each speech should be 7-9 minutes
6. Speech should be informative, entertaining and inspiring
7. Speeches should not be politically inclined
8. Speeches should not sell any products, services or anything that is deemed selling.
9. Speeches should not have any content, actions, gestures or media that would discriminate or hurt the sentiments of any person, religion, race or group.
10. This is not a competition.

How to apply?

Student speakers

1. Choose a topic from the list of topics in the previous section. Now you can do one of the below options
   1. Send us a 2 minute video of you speaking on your chosen topic along with the duly filled application form by 15th July 2017.
   2. Send us the duly filled application form. Attend the audition on Saturday, 1st July 2017 at 2pm and present your 2-min speech in front of the judges.
   3. Wildcard entry: Send us a 7-9 minute video of you speaking on your chosen topic along with the duly filled application form by 15th August 2017.
2. Our selection panel will select your candidature based on how well you are presenting in the video. So, record it prepared.
3. If you are sending the video, the video should be unedited. The selection panel has the authority to reject the candidature if the feel the video is edited.
4. We would like to know what your strengths are. We would like to know about your hobbies, talents, values and achievements inside and outside your school. Please fill that part carefully in the application form.
5. Our selection panel will shortlist the final speakers after analysing the videos.
6. You are welcome to send videos / attend the audition for more than one topic. However, we would be selecting a maximum of only one topic from that.
7. There will be two bootcamps before the forum. It is mandatory for all selected speakers to attend both bootcamps – onsite or online. The bootcamps will feature experts from public speaking and leadership coaching practices.

Fill up the application form and send us a copy of your NRIC (or passport), relevant videos and a passport size photograph.

Attend IYLIF 2017

Registration Fee for student speakers

$60 per student participant (inclusive of two bootcamps on public speaking skills by experts)

You do not need to pay when you apply. If you are selected as a speaker by our selection panel then you need to make the registration fee of $60 to take part in the conference. All student speakers will be given a chance to take part in a panel discussion.

2. Parent representatives for panel discussions

Please tell us what topics you are interested in discussing and why we should choose you for that. Our selection panel will shortlist the panelists based on your arguments and the topic selected. You do not need to make any payment.

3. Experts/educators for panel discussions

4. Performers

Group performances of children in the age group 10-17 are welcome. Please send us a video of a prior performance of yours along with the duly filled form.

Due to the limitation of time, we might not be able to provide opportunity to all registrants. Our selection panel will choose the candidates based on the quality and uniqueness of their topics / performance.

The selection panel’s decision will be final.
